DO NOT PICK AND CONSUME WILD MUSHROOMS

The Australian Mushroom Growers’ Association reiterates the advice of the health authorities in urging Australians not to pick and consume wild mushrooms.

The warning comes as favourable seasonal conditions lead to a rise in people requiring medical attention after eating potentially dangerous mushrooms they picked themselves.

AMGA Relationship and General Manager, Martine Poulain said the only way to ensure your mushrooms are safe is to purchase mushrooms from Australian retailers.

“It’s vitally important Australians resist the urge to forage for mushrooms themselves, as it is simply not safe,” she said.

“The only way to properly obtain mushrooms is to go to retail outlets, who source mushrooms from growers who adhere to rigorous standards and follow global best practice.

“This way you can be sure the provenance of their product is known and trusted, the mushrooms are safe to eat, and are of the highest quality.”
